About
Hi, I'm Trevor.
I'm the person behind Shard Development — and the person who will build your website. Shard is a one-person studio in Belton, Missouri, serving small businesses across the Kansas City area.
Where it started
I've been building for the web since high school. At Raymore-Peculiar High School, I competed in Future Business Leaders of America, placing 6th in Missouri in Website Design my freshman year, and 2nd in the state in Software Design, which earned a place at the national conference.
That's where I learned that good work isn't just about how something looks. It has to work, it has to hold up, and it has to make sense to the people using it.
What I do by day
By day, I drive a tow truck. I run rollbacks and wreckers across the Kansas City metro, including an emergency on-call rotation, which means I'm often the person who shows up on someone's worst day of the week.
That job has shaped how I work more than anything else. You learn to stay calm, figure out the problem in front of you, explain it plainly, and get it handled right the first time. It's the same approach I bring to every website: show up, do it properly, and leave things better than I found them.
Why Shard
Small businesses deserve better than a template and a support ticket. With Shard, you work with one person from first message to launch — the same person who writes your scope, builds your site, and looks after it afterward. No hand-offs, no account managers, no guessing who's responsible.
How I work
Because Shard runs alongside my day job, I keep my client list small on purpose. Most communication happens in writing, so nothing gets lost, and calls are scheduled ahead of time, so when we talk, you have my full attention.
Behind the scenes
Outside of client work, I run my own servers at home. Building and maintaining that infrastructure keeps my skills sharp, and it's why I'm comfortable handling the technical side of your site — not just the design.
Outside of work
I live in Belton with my wife and our kids. When I'm not building something, I'm with them.
